Two historical markers about the noted writer Washington Irving camping near here in 1832 are located at this site. One marker from Oklahoma's Historical Society and State Highway Commission in 1949. The other marker was erected by the Arcadia Public School and Oklahoma City Chapter D.A.R. in 1932.

The markers are located about 1/2 miles east of Arcadia on Route 66 at Anderson Rd.

xThis marker was erected in 1949 and says:

"Near here, in 1832, Washington Irving hunted wild horses, an exciting event described in his book on his Oklahoma tour as "Ringing the Wild Horse." In party were H.L. Ellsworth, U.S. Comm., Chas. J. Latrobe, English writer, and Swiss Count, Albert Day Portales."

xThe older marker was erected in 1932 and says:

THE WASHINGTON IRVING PARTY
AND A
TROOP OF U. S. RANGERS
ENCAMPED ON THIS SPOT, OCT. 24, 1832
ERECTED BY THE
ARCADIA PUBLIC SCHOOL
AND
THE OKLAHOMA CITY
