Old Hwy. 66East of Arcadia, OKPhone:
East GPS: 35.659864, -97.289945 This is the only surviving section of original concrete and asphalt "Modified Bates Type" roadbed built to then current Oklahoma State Highway Commission standards in 1928. The east end used pure Portland Concrete but the west end used a two inch asphalt surface over a five inch concrete base. This section of road was added to thee National Register of Historic Places in 1999. Shortly after starting down this section there is a culvert that goes under the newer road, I haven't explored it to find out why. There is a concrete Oklahoma F.A.P. (Federal Aid Project) marker inscribed with data for each road project. This marker stands where two road construction projects met. The east project was a concrete surface, the west was built with an asphalt surface on top of a concrete base.
The
marker located about 3/10 of a mile from the east end of old 66 and
is nearly hidden by the greenery so it's easy to miss. Photo(s): 2016
