Junior Garza's Old School Garage was restored in 2011. This is the sixth
of ten gas stations that were painted by volunteers from the Tucumcari
"Paint the Town" project. It is located on East Route 66 just
past Hawthorne St. This station was painted as a Phillips 66 Station.
I'm not sure what brand of gas was sold here originally.
We
met this very nice French couple while we were at the station and the
gentleman posed as a gas jockey for this photo. Meeting folks from around
the world is a large part of the fun of traveling the Mother Road. Since
we took these photos the business has become a used car lot and the
vintage gas pumps have been removed.

About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
Did
You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
