The Route 66 Restaurant was originally the mid-60s Lettie's Route 66 Restaurant. We ate here whenever we got to Santa Rosa. The Velasquez family operated the restaurant since 1986. Before that the Elfego Albert "Friggie" Campos family had operated Lettie's Restaurant, named for their daughter. Check out the cool Googie style "Restaurant" sign on the front of the building. The Campos family promoted the restaurant as having a "Panoramic View of the Valley". Sadly the restaurant closed in September of 2019, we're going to miss their Frito Pie!

x They have a couple other signs to help get the attention of hungry people. This is at least the third set of signs for the cafe. In the the second (?) set the round Route 66 sign was the same yellow as the background on the Googie style letters and simply said Lettie's in script and the large red and white Restaurant sign wasn't yet in place.

NOTE: Dated 1971 this postcard doesn't really tell us anything about the restaurant, but it does show the very cool Googie style "RESTAURANT" sign.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
