The Rio Pecos Ranch Truck Terminal sign has a truck driver with an animated waving hand and a neon outlined trailer and wheels. At the time of the 2003 New Mexico Route 66 Neon Sign Restoration Project, there was some talk of changing the sign to a neon "Welcome to Santa Rosa" with a lighted message board, but it didn't happen. A couple of the buildings in this photo have since been torn down.

x I like seeing these great old signs preserved. The Rio Pecos Ranch/Truck Terminal was built by Ira and Bessie Boren opened in 1955, it apparently closed in the late 1970s or early 1980s. They also built the former KOA RV Park across the road that today operates as the Santa Rosa Campground. It seems like both the truck stop and campground have gone through a few owners.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
