Lazy J Motel

911 Central (Stanford Ave.& Rt. 66)
Phone:

East < GO > West

The Lazy J Motel opened in 1955 at the intersection of Stanford Ave. and Route 66. The building has been remodeled somewhere along the line with the addition of a canopy over the lobby entrance and a hip roof replacing the original flat roof. It looks like the canopy might have been added after the hip roof because it has a metal roof and the rest of the building has asphalt shingles. The guest room windows look like the original 16 pane units though.

The only sign is painted on the west side of the building. The original sign was on a post at the corner of the office where the 3 tall narrow windows are in this photo.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
