Zeon Signs of Albuquerque built the sign in 1958, but in 1998 it was blown down in a storm. The sign was renovated as part of the 2009 New Mexico Route 66 Neon Sign Restoration Project. "Grants", "Cafe" and the arrow are lit with neon, the arrow having four rows of neon tubing. Like in many towns along the Mother Road bright neon signs lit the night and guided the way on Route 66. You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
