East < GO > West

The State Line Bar, Gas Station and Motel is just west of the border in New Mexico. The motel was built in about 1930 and the State Line Bar Gas Station was built around 1935.

The Stateline Bar and gas station building used to have a canopy projecting out over the pump island. The canopy apparently left town with the pumps. The concrete block facade on the building was added around 1960 or so.

The small wood structure on the west (left in this photo) was the Glenrio Post Office for many years. Although the post office closed in 2007, as late as 2012 mail was still delivered and picked up from a group of mail boxes, but they were gone when we visited in 2013.

The 1930s State Line Motel with its eight guest rooms stood behind the Bar and Station. Bathrooms were added to each guest room in the early 1950s That meant there was a bit less sleeping space, but at least guest had a private toilet and wash basin.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
