Route 66, Glenrio, NM

East < GO > West

This house was built sometime around 1910 making it the oldest surviving building in Glenrio. The Angel family owned it in the 1930s and 1940s, but is was reportedly still in use in the 1970s. The stone walls of the main house are covered with stucco which has fallen off in spots. A small 1930s addition on the back of the house has stuccoed wood walls. The house sets back from the road and can be a little hard to spot when the trees are full of leafs.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
