Dixie Bar & Cafe

NM Hwy 124 at Old 66, Budville, NM
Phone:

East < GO > West

The Dixie Tavern was established in 1936, by 1953 it was advertising as the Dixie Tavern and Cafe. Besides being a bar and cafe they also had cabins for rent, sold souvenirs, Indian rugs, pottery, jewelry and more. The building shown here bears no resemblance to the original, but I haven't found a date for when it was built. A large parking lot made it an easy stop for truckers.

It is located where the original Route 66 runs north of Hwy 124 on the Cubero Cut-off road.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
