Pinon Lodge
8501 E. Central
Phone:
Opened in 1946 and later became the Pinon Motel. It has had several owners
over the years. It is now the Pinon Motel and Apartments. The Pinon is
the New Mexico state tree and its nuts were once a staple of the Southwestern
Indian diet.
Here's a kind of fun fact, in 1967 the motel received a "Civic
Beauty Citation" for it's lighted island and animal statues.
The motel was known as the Pinon Motor lodge in the late 1950s and
early 1960s. In the early 1970s the name changed to the Pinon Motel,
I'm guessing that came with a change in ownership.
