The El Vado originally open in 1937 but was closed for years before it reopened in October 2018 after extensive renovations and new construction. There had been other efforts to renovate it, but that hadn't happened by the spring of 2013 when these photos were taken.

x The sign shown on the building was a leftover from the "good old days".

NOTE: This 1970 postcard shows what they really wanted to emphasize by using capital letters for room phones and free TV. Notice that those room phones weren't called direct dial though, perhaps they still went through a switchboard in the office.

xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
