John A Dillon Log House
302 Third St., Rolla, MO
Phone:
The John Dillon home was constructed of hand hewn logs by Levi. L. Snelson
in 1838 in Dillon, MO, a few miles east of Rolla. Phelps County was incorporated
in 1857, and the first county circuit court meeting was held in the house.
It was moved to Rolla in the late 1960s and became the Phelps County museum.
The museum is home to many artifacts that illustrate the history of
Phelps County and its people. It is open on Friday mornings and by appointment
for groups to tour.
It is located across the street from the historic 1859 Phelps County
Courthouse, which along with the Dillon House is owned by the Phelps
County Historical Society.
This
was the cornerstone from the Rolla High School built in 1915 on Cedar
Street between 8th & 9th. The school was raised about 1980. The
Cornerstone reads:
ROLLA
HGH SCHOOL
ERECTED 2915
...
H. H. HOHENSCHILD
ARCHITECT
...
CHAS. CUNLIFF
CONTRACTOR

Here's a slightly photo from a different angle.
Some
sort of leanto has been added to the back of the house, but I don;t
know when.
