East < GO > West

The story behind these two buildings makes them my favorites in Halltown. A man named Charlie Dammer went to California and returned to Halltown in 1930 and built a hotel with several guest rooms upstairs and a cafe below. He also built the tiny building next door where he practice his trade as a barber.

Apparently his California trip influenced the Spanish Colonial style of the hotel, that makes the building stand out in this little Missouri town. Yes it has been pretty heavily modified but the parapet still lets the original design theme shine through. The windows on both floors originally wrapped around the corners and the balcony is a newer addition. The whole building has been converted to apartments.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
