Hayes Shoe Store has been on this corner since before 1950. So if you are into shoes you might want to stop in and see a couple of large shoes the have on display. How big you ask? Well one is a size 35AA and the other is a size 37AA, is that big enough? Are you sure?

So where did the huge shoes come from? The were the property of the man who was at the time the worlds tallest man, Robert Wadlow from Alton, IL. Wadlow lived from 1918 to 1940. The shoes are in a glass display case in the store.

In the early 1900s a general merchandise store called Prosperity Corner and owned by H.H. Tieman stood on this corner. Tieman lived from 1848 to 1921.

The muralon the side of the building advertised the Tennent-Stribling Shoe Co.

A plaque on the wall tells us that " ... Prosperity Corner drew citizens to meet, do business, and pass the time of day. H.H. Tieman's General Merchandise Store was the hub of this activity ... "

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
