The jail consists of a guard space with a desk and wood burning stove and a rear cell room with two hanging bunks. It is separated from the guard room by a concrete block wall and iron door. This jail was in used until 1954 when a new jail was built. It was restored between 2004 and 2006 by Verlin Boda as his Eagle Scout Project. A 1924 map shows that there also was another structure located here, a one-story building 18-feet high and appears to have been an electric power house using both oil and gasoline fuel (located where picnic table is).

xJust in case the bars on the door weren't enough for some scofflaws to figure out where they were lodging for the night, the facility name is carved just above the door.

xThis view looks from the "lobby" into the "guest room".

xThis little building stands near the old jail, but I don't know if its related to the jail.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
