Viva Cuba, Cuba's beautification organization, built this wall for the mural of the former businessman and long time mayor, Al West, Sr. The wall is on the site of West's former business. Looking at the mural it appears that West was a DeSoto-Plymouth Dealer as well as a running a Standard Oil gas station here.

This mural is painted on a block wall.

A plaque on the front of the wall tells a bit of West's importance and history in Cuba. It reads, in part:

"Al West,Sr. served as Cuba's mayor from 1946 to 1958. During his tenure, the city purchased the light and power system. Resulting revenues allowed Cuba to finance improvements such as paved, named, and lit streets and to extend water and sewer systems, which helped modernize the city and attract factories and jobs in the postwar economy"

The little thermometer in the mural advertises the:

Al West Motor Co. and Tractor Sales
DeSoto and Plymouth Cars ... GMC Trucks ... Ferguson Tractors ... Ferguson System Farm Equipment ...

The mural was painted by the Whitesitt group of St. Louis

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
