This gas station dates to at least the mid-1940s and has been dressed
up with Texaco and Route 66 signs. The station sits at the intersection
of Main Street and 6th in Galena.
The service bay on the left in this photo is a later addition. Not
shown here is what appears to be another smaller addition on the back
of the station that fills a bit of space between it and the Post Office
building next door.

You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
