Baxter Drug / IOOF Hall Building

1000 Military Ave., Baxter Springs, KS
Phone:

East < GO > West

The ca. 1900 IOOF Hall building replaced the 1868 Bischosberger Hotel and Restaurant on this site. The IOOF met upstairs here for years. More recently it's been the home of Baxter Drugs.

An Historic Marker by the entrance tells us that in 1900, the previous property on this site was razed. The present brick building was constructed that year and was used as the Baxter Springs Post Office until 1911. The International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge held their meetings upstairs.

xCool retro style sign.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
