The 1854 Chicago and Alton Railroad Depot later served the Gulf, Mobile, and Ohio RR, then the Illinois Central Gulf, Southern Pacific, and then the Union Pacific Railroad. It was the the public library when these photos were snapped in 2012, a function it no longer serves.

In 2014 there was talk of moving the old depot, which was then serving as the public library, to make room for more tracks to accommodate high speed rail, but that need didn't develop so the old depot and the Union Pacific boxcars next door were still here last time we went through town. But a new library and historical museum have opened to replace the Depot and Boxcars.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
