The Cozy Dog Restaurant is packed full of fun and food. Stop by and have a Cozy Dog! We've enjoyed a couple of Cozy Dogs each time we've been to Springfield.

The dining room is divided by a large display case holding memorabilia. They also have a nice collection of Route 66 items for sale in a small gift shop in a corner of the dining room.

The "corn dog on a stick" the "Crusty Cur" was developed during World War II by Ed Waldmire while he was in the U.S. Air Force and sold at the USO club.. The renamed Cozy Dogs were first sold in 1946 at the Lake Springfield Beach House and later at the Illinois State Fair. The first restaurant opened that same year.

x This is so typical of vintage roadside cafes along Route 66, a simple "FOOD" pretty much said it all. The current and 4th location of the Cozy Dog is on Sixth Street between Linton Ave.& Apple Orchard Rd, next to the location of the original restaurant. This location opened in 1996 on the former site of the Lincoln Motel.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
