Mel-O-Cream Donuts was started in 1932 when Kelly Grant Sr. purchased a small donut shop for $500. Apparently there is or was a "secret formula" for the "Cream" part of the recipe. While there are a few retail shops around most of the business is now wholesale.

xWhat I find interesting here is the roof of this building. Notice how it has a much steeper angle at one end than the other. But that is only true on one side of the building. The building is much narrower on this end than on the other end which could account for the interesting roof line I suppose. Rather than run the ridgeline right down the center of the building the seem to have kept the same pitch for the full length on the back and used a variable pitch on the front.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
