The Chicagoland Speedway is a 1.5 mile tri-oval race track that opened in 2001. The Indycar Series ran at the track from 2001 to 2010, but did not return for the 2011 season. In 2011 NASCAR moved the first race in the "Chase for the Cup" in the Cup Series to September with the then Nationwide Series and the Camping World Truck Series racing the same weekend.

Our experience is that if you want a room anywhere near Joliet on a NASCAR Race weekend you need to make reservations well in advance, or be prepared to spend a pile of cash for a room, and maybe both.

xYou can enter either by going east on Laraway Rd or going east on Schweitzer Rd from Hwy. 53 (Route 66).

The track is actually in Preston Heights but is commonly referred to as being in Joliet.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
