This huge Route 66 mural on the back of the Route 66 Museum building is probably the most famous mural in Pontiac and maybe the most famous on all of Route 66. There is an entrance to the museum between the Wishing Well Motel sign and the mural.

x The Deep Rock Gasoline mural and the Daniel's Oil Co. mural are located in parking lot behind Illinois Route 66 Museum between Main & Mill Streets. Artists are Diaz Sign Art. The Daniel's mural is not one of the original 18 painted by the Walldogs in 2009.

x On the other side of the Daniel's mural is the Roszell's Soda Foundation mural. Artists are Steve Estes & Joseph Diaz. Notice the bird flying in the sky part of the mural on this two story building, the Daniel's mural is on a one story building.

xThe Great Sidewalk Shark in Pontiac was designed by Dangbal Tang and may be the most unusual mural in town. It is located in front of Lydia's Cup Cafe at 107 W Madison, across the street from the town square. You have to admire a town that promotes this kind of art, and Pontiac seems to promote murals of all sorts. Tang opened a school in here at 425 W. Madison.

In June 2009 the Walldogs came to Pontiac and with the help of over 150 artists 18 murals were painted in just 4 days. There are now over 20 murals located all over downtown. Mural guides/maps are available at the different museums located downtown.

The mural on the side of Edinger's Filling Station Restaurant was created by artist Tang Dongbai and completed in June 2015. This was the 24th mural in downtown Pontiac and depicts a 1926 Pontiac driving past a cafe on a brick paved Route 66. 1926 was the first year for both Route 66 and the Pontiac automobile. The cafe in the mural represents a building constructed on Ladd Street in 1926.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
