The former Houdek's Steakhouse and Hotel at Joliet Rd. & Clyde Terrace in McCook was a Pomp's Tire store when we went by in 2016. Houdek's had a dance hall that used a jukebox to provide music. There was also a bar and soda fountain in addition to the dining facilities. The second floor housed the hotel.

The building was a gas station for some time after Houdek's closed but before it became the tire shop. It has been so heavily altered that there really is little, if any current relevance to historic on Route 66. About the only visual reference to the original exterior is the angled corner entrance.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
