Postville Park
1300 Fifth St., Lincoln, IL
Phone:
This park was once the town square for the town of Postville, an 1835
community that became the first County Seat of Logan County. That didn't
happen right away because Logan County didn't even exist under law until
the Illinois legislative session of 1838-39
Abraham Lincoln was known to play ball in this park when he was practicing
law at the Postville courthouse.

Also located here is a Experience Hub for the city of Lincoln which
shows the Route 66 attractions in the Lincoln Region and Route 66 in
Logan County.
The
town was named after Russell Post an adventurer from Baltimore that
laid out the town. The historic marker shown here reads:
"In 1835 Russell Post, a Baltimore adventurer, laid out the
town of Postville which became the first Logan County seat. The town
square is now Postville Park. Here Abraham Lincoln and his friends
played townball a predecessor of baseball, threw the maul a heavy
wooden hammer, and pitched horseshoes.
Erected 1964 by The Lincoln Kiwanis, Lions and Rotary Clubs and The
Illinois State Historical Society."
