Back in the 1930's Washington and 5th Street was known as Wilson's Corner
where there was a grocery store and gas station. When this photo was taken
in 2012 the station was being used by C&C Cycle. The service bays
between the canopy and the Texaco sign were an addition to the original
station.
A large Illinois Route 66 shield on the side of the building by the
Texaco sign makes for a good photo opportunity. At this location 5th
Street was the 1926-1940 alignment of Route 66.

road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
