Postville Courthouse

This is a replica of the original courthouse which was was completed in 1840 and was the home of the Eighth Judicial Circuit Court until 1848. As a traveling attorney Abraham Lincoln practiced law in the original building during those eight years. 1848 the county records were moved to Mt. Pulaski. The County seat, which had been Postville since 1839, was moved to Lincoln in 1855.

x So what happened to the original building? Well it became a private residence and in 1929 it, and the block of land around it was sold to Henry Ford who moved the building to Dearborn, Michigan. In 1946 the land was repurchased and the replica was completed in 1953 in time for the Centennial Celebration in September of 1953.
