Wayside Exhibit

The "Farms and Quarries" Wayside Exhibit tells about the nature of this area in the early days. The quarry, about a mile from this spot, was the source of much of the stone used for Route 66 in this area. Just up the road at the NE corner of the intersection with S. LaGrange Rd. is the former location of the Marx Brothers chicken farm. I knew they were famous comedians, but had no idea they were chicken farmers.

The smaller sign tells us that Countryside is a National Scenic Byway Community.

Look for the Route 66 Wayside Exhibit sign across the street from the Holiday Inn.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
