This is the site of the former Sweney's Station at the intersection of the original 1926 alignment of Route 66 (I-4) and Hwy. 24 (previously Hwy. 8). I'm not at all sure this is the original building, if it is it has been modified beyond regonition.

This was Bob's Kat-E-Korner Drive-In and Restaurant from when it was built in 1964 until 1988 when the restaurant closed and became a doll shop where Bob and his wife made and sold and repaired porcelain dolls. Bob passed on in 2006 but his wife continued to operate the shop until her passing in 2021. The building is on the NE corner of the intersection of Morehead st. and Hwy 24, but the actual address is on Franklin, which runs behind the building.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
