This old (1920s?) gas station, garage, and restaurant was Steve's Cafe for decades until it finally closed for good in the mid-1990s. As the early 50s postcard below shows they proudly promoted having "The Finest Steaks Between Chicago and St. Louis". Steve's was a active part of the social life of Chenoa as well as a restaurant and gas station.

The building has been modified over the years but is still pretty easily recognized, even though the pump island drive has been enclosed. At some point in its later years a lounge was added and the name became Steve's Cafe and Lounge.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
