The Thomas Vineyard was established in 1839 by Tiburcio Tapia and it is California's oldest winery. In 1859 the third owner, John Rains, planted 125,000 grapevines, replacing graze land. The vineyard changed hands several times over the years. In 1969 there was a huge flood that inflicted serious damage to the buildings. In the mid 1980s the property was sold to a retail developer and the winery closed. The building, designated California historic landmark No. 490.

Today the building houses various cafes.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
