Old Union 76 Station

Route 66, Ludlow, CA
Phone:

East < GO > West

This former Union 76 station and garage was owned by Laurel and Cameron Friend who had purchased the old Ludlow Cafe next door, and much if not all of the town, in the 1960s.

It must have been hard to keep employees at these businesses because it seems like they were pretty constantly running help wanted ads in the San Bernardino County Sun newspaper for both the station and the cafe.

The station was completely fenced in when we snapped this photo in 2013, but the fence wasn't there when we went by in 2009. This building replaced a much older and small building.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
