The Turquoise Tepee has been located in the mid-40s Bowden Building since the 70s. The first tenant in the corner space was the Beacon Cafe. They had an neon sign right on the top corner of the building that resembled an airline beacon. You could park free at the Halbert's Richfield Service Station right next door. The station building is still there too!

The Beacon was followed in that space by the Frontier Cafe in 1959 and a couple of others before the Turquoise Tepee moved in.

x The building has a cool neon sign and is faced with flagstone on the front and part of the east end. Some of the materials Thomas Bowden used in constructing the building came from buildings that were dismantled in the early and -1940s.

The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Williams Historic Business District.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
