The Travelodge opened in Williams in January of 1957 and it's still welcoming guests! The two story 40 unit motel was number 63rd in the Travelodge chain. Over the years the number of rooms has varied from 38 - 40, which seems to be common among motels.

Six months after they opened the installed their first six television sets. It took a while before TVs were installed in evey room. Im 1964 a swimming pool was added to the property. In 1960 you could rent a room here for between $7.00 and $12.00, some had radios and Pay TV according to a AAA Tourbook from the time.

Note: This post card isn't dated but it's probably pretty early because the newest car in the parking lot is a 57 Plymouth, but it does mention TVs so it had to be at least later than July 1957 because that's when they installed the first sets. A swimming pool was added later in the grassy area in the lower left corner shown on the postcard.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
