Orlando Motel

16213 E. Route 66 , Truxton, AZ
Phone: x

East < GO > West

Jerome and Mary Orlando, built the Orlando Motel in the mid-1960s and owned it until the late 1970s or early 80s. It stands on the west end of Truxton looking fairly forlorn and forgotten in these photos taken in the spring of 2013. It looked like all the windows were boarded up at the time. What was a canopy over the lobby entrance seems to have been replaced and enclosed. A similar addition has been built on the west side of the lobby area also.

x The neon tubing for Motel and Vacancy on this side of the sign looked like it was all there. The sign was modified somewhere along the line. The "Orlando" part originally was much larger and written in script about as tall as the word motel. All of the signs below the word motel have also been modified and/or changed/added. The three support posts originally extended several feet above the name Orlando.

The sign, a satellite dish, an old fountain and a couple of shrubs seemed to be the only occupants of the courtyard in front of the Orlando Motel when we passed by in 2013. An old postcard shows the building sitting on a barren flat piece of land, not really very inviting, but I guess if you were tired it filled the bill.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
