This is the original 1923 Delgadillo's Pool Hall and Barber Shop between Floyd and Main Streets on Railroad Avenue. The pool Hall came first and the barber shop open a bit later after Angel Sr. had taught himself the art of barbering.

So what causes a pool hall operator to become a barber? Well apparently Angel Sr. realized that the Basque sheepherders in the area were in need of a friendly barber shop, so he set about to meet the need. Along the way the pool hall also became a sort of social hall the the sheepherders too.

The old pool hall is on Railroad Ave., one block south of today's Historic Route 66.

The pool hall and barber shop were closed down after Route 66 was moved in 1933. The Great Depression and the loss of shepherding in the area didn't help matters.

After high school Angel Jr. hustled off to barber school and then practiced in Williams for a time before returning to Seligman and reopening the pool hall and barber shop in this building in 1950. He continued to work from this building until 1972 when he moved his business to its current location on Chino Avenue, which is known as Historic Route 66 today.

x "Seligman Pool Hall" used to be painted in large letters on the parapet above the canopy.

xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
