East < GO > West

The house on the right with the fence was built by Angel Delgadillo Sr. in 1920. Angel, Jr. was born in 1927 and grew up in this house. I read an endearing story he told a reporter during an interview a few years ago.

Apparently he and his siblings would go outside after dark and wait on the east side of the house for cars coming west. As the cars went by their headlights would cast the children's animated shadows on the white wall of the house as the cars went by. The children called this "shadow dancing". I'm guessing the tree shading the house now wasn't there at the time.

That's a separate house next-door on the left. The fence defines the width of the Delgadillo house.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
