Beale Hotel
325 E. Andy Devine Ave., Kingman, AZ
Phone:
The Hotel Beale was built by John Mulligan and Harvey Hubbs in 1899 to
replace a short lived 1898 wood version that had been destroyed in a fire.
The sturdier new two story was built of stone and brick which seems to
have served it well for over 100 years.
In 1906 the hotel was purchased by actor Andy Devine's parents for
a reported price of about $32,000.00. In 1916 the hotel was remodeled
and expanded to 70 rooms with the addition of a three story building
behind the original. The remodeling also saw original Queen Anne style
give way to a Mission Revival exterior style.
It is located at about a block from the railroad depot which was a
source of many guests in the early days. It was placed on the National
Register of Historic Places in 1986.
A huge HOTEL BEALE sign hangs on a steel frame high above the building
making it visible from afar on both Andy Devine Avenue and Beale St.
Andy Devine Ave. is also Route 66 and the National Old Trails Road in
Kingman. The Hotel Beale was listed on the National Register of Historic
Places as part of Kingman Historic District.

Note: The 1918 newspaper ad predates Route 66 by a few years,
but comes shortly after the 1916 remodeling and expansion of the hotel.
I don't imagine much changed between this ad appearing and the designation
of front street as Route 66.
