The Spanish Mission style station was built in 1907 by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. This is Kingman's third railroad depot, the first was destroyed by fire, so in 1901 they built a "fire proof" depot that burned to the ground in 1906, so they built this depot with poured concrete. In the early 2000s the depot needed extensive work and was closed to the public until 2011. Meanwhile the Amtrak waiting room location was moved across the street .

x In was restored in 2010/11 by the City of Kingman and in September 2012 the Kingman Railroad Museum opened its doors. It is operated by the Whistle Stop Railroad Club. There is also a small Amtrak waiting room inside the depot. In 1986 the depot was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

x These fuel and water tanks at the east end of the depot date back to 1911. Like the depot they are on the National Register of Historic Places.

xIn 2003 a mural showing a steam locomotive bursting through a water tank was painted on the second tank. It was done in acrylics by Sandy Rusinko.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
