Pacific Courts Motel & Pacific Restaurant4500 Main St. (Main & Hanson), Joseph Cite, AZPhone:
Glenn Blansett built the original 8 unit Pacific Courts in 1947 with the help of his young sons. They hand made the concrete blocks used to build the motel. They soon added another 6 guest units in a second building that together with the original building formed an "L". Then in 1949 he added a gas station on the west side of the property. Next came the third wing of the motel which had 7 or 8 additional guest units behind the gas station and and brought the motel to 21 or 22 units. Eventually the name was changed to the Pacific Motel and Service Station. He built the Pacific Restaurant across the road in 1953. In 1959 Blansett sold the motel to Carl B. Hearn who apparently sold it soon after. Rodney Call Clark owned the motel from 1961 to 1966. The original flat roof has been modified with the style seen in the photo. The building was being used as Heritage Glass/Joseph City Storage when we went by in the spring of 2015. ---------- In 1953 the Blansetts opened the Pacific Restaurant across the street from the motel and station. A matchbook from the time advertises the Motel on the front and the restaurant on the back. A later matchbook advertises the Motel on the front, listing the Blansetts as owner and still advertised the Restaurant on the back, but with the words "under new management". The cafe apparently had great donuts in later years. It appeared to be a private residence in 2015. The Blansetts sold the restaurant to Esther McWhorter who renamed it the Pacific Cafe and owned and operated by for many years. It was reportedly a favorite of truckers even after I-40 opened. According to a newspaper ad she was trying to sell the cafe in 1974. After Blansett sold the Joseph City businesses in 1959 he leased the Jackrabbit Trading Post in 1961. He bought the trading post in 1967. ..........
Note: The postcard shows a Union 76 sign for the gas station, but not the station itself. A later photo shows the gas station flying a Mobil sign.
