Sandman Motel

The rather small 10 unit Chief Motel was built in 1956. It later became the Sandman Motel. I think the name change happened before 1963 because the larger Chief Motel a few blocks east on Hopi Drive is reported to have gotten new operators in 1963 while using the Chief name.

Did You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
