East < GO > West

Odell Mantooth operated this station from 1945 when it was built until 1981 selling Chevron gas the whole time. There had been a previous gas station on this site. The two doors on the side of the building were for the restrooms. There are two garage doors on the front of the building for the service bays. The canopy is supported by a couple of steel columns and has been only slightly modified over the years. Three gas pumps were located between the canopy columns. Just one wall of the building next door was still standing when this photo was taken in 2015.

x There is a Hotrod Haven mural on the side of the station. It is located at 1st Street and Rowe St. There is another mural on the remaining wall of the building next door. It's pretty faded out, but at one time proudly proclaimed "McLean, The Heart of Route 66:.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
