The Potter County Free Library opened in 1922 and the city took charge
of it in 1940. It was the first county library in Texas to have it's own
building. It is now part of a larger city complex. It is located at the
corner of South Taylor and 6th Ave. The prairies school style building
cost $25,000.00 to build. It was added to the Recorded Texas Historic
Landmark List in 1996. The cornerstone lists the architects as Smith &
Townes and the contractors as W. M. Rice Construction Co.
