Another motel of many names, first Bailey's Motel, then the Cactus Motel and lately The Royal Inn opened in 1952 with panel-ray heating, tiled baths and carpeting. James Bailey owned and operated the motel in the early 50s, but buy 1953 it had become the Cactus Motel and was for sale.

The for sale ad described the motel as having a 200 foot frontage on 66, carpeted guest rooms, Franciscan furniture, tile baths, and a 2 bedroom owner/managers unit. It was for sale again in 1966 for $11,000.00. It was still known as the Cactus Motel at least as late as the mid-70s and maybe longer. The Historic Resources Survey Inventory includes the name Carter's Motel, but doesn't state a date for that name.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
