This abandoned station was known as Dale's Texaco Station and Garage dates back to 1938. There's a bit of incongruity of design here. The canopy is a style that doesn't match the building. That makes me think the canopy was added several years after the station and garage building was built.

Here's a little better look at the corner of the canopy over the entrance. Kind of a cool style with the corrugated metal curving around the corners, even if it is a bit tattered. This was a hallmark of Texaco stations of the period and can be seen on several of their vintage stations all along the Mother Road.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
