Pioneer Tourist Camp & Station

3402 Route 66, Welleston, OK
Phone:

East < GO > West

The round stone pillars and station building are about all that is left of Pioneer Tourist Camp that was built in 1921. The site is at the intersection of 66 and 66B. 66B was Route 66 from 1926 to 1933.

The lettering on the roof of the building says Pioneer BBQ. The gas pumps were probably on the island between the columns on the front of the building. The building was severly damaged by a kitchen fire in 2017 and except for what looks like a new roof apparently hasn't been repaired.

The pressed steel ceiling is still in place under the canopy out front. It looks like it's been painted over several times, but it's still pretty cool.

The Butcher BBQ Stand is located on the same site. The pitmaster's family bought the property in 1995.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
