The Territorial Jail stands one block north of Route 66 in Texola, OK. Iron bars made up the for and windows. It is located on Main Ave, one block north of Route 66. The building is built of rough concrete block that is stuccoed smooth on the inside. Footings go down into the ground to prevent scofflaws from digging their way out.

x Typical of these early jails, the accommodations weren't exactly luxurious. This one features some news articles and photos from the past that mention notorious outlaws Belle Star, Jesse James Billy the Kid and Black Bart, none of whom apparently were guests here..

x When we were there this plaque listing the high school senior class of 1938 was propped up against the front of the building.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
