These stables were built in 1876. This building is known as Barn Number
3, apparently the only one still standing. This building is 200 feet long
and has 30+ stalls. A room in the corner was for the living quarters of
the Stable Sergeant. Other corner rooms were used for storage of tack.
The U.S. Cavalry Association completed restoration of this stable in 2017.

You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
