This is one of my favorite landmarks on the Mother Road. The large mural
on the back of the drive-in theater screen brightens the old cinder block
structure up a bit. The mural named "Guardian of the Mother Road"
features a Scissortail Flycatcher design and was painted by artists Rick
Stennett and Jake Harms as part of the Public Arts Project 66. The Scissortail
Flycatcher is the state bird of Oklahoma.
The 220 car Squaw Drive-In theater dates from 1955 and used a 38 foot
tall narrow format screen. At the time a company called Video Independent
Theaters ran the place. The narrow format screen probably had a hard
time competing with the widescreen theaters.

About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more

You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
